It's simple.

Save $200. Once you have the money go to select 'Bad' credit on the top left, and apply for one of the Secured cards. Then do not use the card that you get -- only activate it. This is the best way to build credit and avoid all the high fees.

Once your credit improves you will be able to get your deposit back.

I suggest you visit a local credit restoration service. They should offer you advice to help improve your credit.

If you haven't needed a credit card up until people have been telling you that you need one, don't worry about it. You really don't 'need' one. The only reason that I got my credit card (aside to help with my credit score!) was for emergiencies-and that was at my family suggestion. I ended up applying for a card through my bank/federal credit union. They will be easier than any other place, especially if you have been with them for a while. Make sure you have NO annual fee. Aside from that, pick and choose.

Chances are your best option will be a secured credit card. however they do all involve a security deposit. Depending on how bad your credit is some banks have what they call a partially secured credit card. It requires a lower security deposit. for example you give them 99 dollars and you get a credit card with a 300 dollar credit limit. And then of course if all your payments are on time and for the minimum and you don't go over the credit limit after about 6 months to a year they'll give you your deposit back and turn the card into a regular credit card for you.
